They Help Make

ARTISTIC - ARTIST - A.R.T.

As someone who experienced significant injury and later received a Medical Disability, I know firsthand what it's like to live with an invisible condition that led to brain damage in my early twenties and classified with a “mental disorder". While my parents did everything they could, it was through advanced neurological care, psychiatric support, and psychological treatment that I began to heal. This part of my journey is not something I often discuss, but I know there are many others who share similar struggles—those who carry invisible pain that can't be seen by the outside world.

My healing process took place at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where I was studying art and pursuing my degree. In many ways, art became my therapy; it served as a cathartic outlet while my brain slowly rebuilt itself. The brain is a strange and resilient thing, after all.

These three paintings represent fragments of a past life—memories of struggles and sacrifices that remain too personal to fully explain. Perhaps if you understand this hidden world, you'll realize that sometimes, we will do anything to protect our peace. This is why we sacrifice our young. When they return, it’s up to us to be compassionate.

B.F.A. Exhibition

This artwork is about gender issues I dealt with growing up. I was taught to think like a man. Yet, society told me to be a girl. Which is it? They started calling me names like tom-boy. Does that mean I’m a cat? Or a boy? Who came up with these concepts? My birth certificate says girl. I guess I am a woman.

For my Bachelor of Fine Arts Exhibition at The University of Alabama at Birmingham, I created three gigantic paintings in just one semester out of oil paint focusing on this topic.
